Think in relationships

Rather than looking for one special fish, look at the relationship between several fish and the space around them. A crowded patch and a separated patch pose different questions. Which part of the scene could help the reaction travel? Where might it fail to reach?

Those questions are more useful than memorising a location on the screen. A location matters because of the current arrangement, not because the centre or a corner is always best.

Separate an attractive result from a repeatable idea

A long chain is enjoyable, but it does not explain itself. After a successful attempt, consider why you chose that starting point and what the result taught you. A smaller chain that confirms a clear idea may be more informative than a large result you cannot describe.

Do not invent exact distances from a promotional screenshot. Learn the game’s visual feedback during play, and keep your conclusions tied to what you can observe.

Use a modest personal challenge

Our suggested challenge is to explain one choice before making it. Keep the explanation short: “I want to connect these two groups” or “I want to see whether this edge can be reached.” Afterwards, compare the explanation with the result.

This is an editorial practice exercise, not an official scoring system. There are no points to submit, prizes to collect or public rankings on this website.

Leave room for play

Analysis should support the experience, not turn a small puzzle into homework. If you would rather make a few casual attempts, that is a valid way to spend the session. The useful distinction is between choosing casually and believing every result has a hidden perfect formula.

Our first-chain guide gives a simpler starting routine. Try it when you want a clearer view of what happens between the tap and the result.

Take this with you

Explain one opening, observe its result and avoid assuming that the same location always works.
